A new chapter has opened for the Senegalese media community in the United States. In a landmark event held yesterday in Harlem, New York, Senegalese journalists officially launched the Senegalese Press Association of America (SPAA) and elected its first executive team marking a proud moment for African media in the diaspora.
After two years of reflection, dialogue, and collaboration, the dream of bringing together Senegalese media professionals across the U.S. has finally become reality. The SPAA seeks to create a strong and united voice for Senegalese journalists abroad, promoting ethical reporting, solidarity, and professional excellence.
The association’s headquarters will be based in New York City, though its members are spread across multiple states. The election was presided over by Hon. Dame Babou, a trailblazer of Senegalese journalism in America, who praised the unity and dedication that led to this historic milestone.
